The non working refrigerator has ill impacts and it is sure to make your life miserable since stale food, no ice etc. are the last situations that you want to counter. Chances of your refrigerator needing a repair could arise at any time since it is one of those few appliances that run day in and day out, nonstop.
There are two basic components in refrigerator; and they are a condenser coil and an evaporator coil. Technically, it is a liquid coolant which is circulated through these coils via a compressor and a motor. The condenser of the refrigerator is basically a coil which is fitted outside the body of the refrigerator. On the other hand, the evaporator is another coil that is fitted inside the refrigerator unit. The refrigerant liquid, which is churned in the system is cooled in the condenser and then is passed on to the evaporator. Through the principle of heat conduction, the evaporator, the air in the unit is cooled by contact with the liquid-filled coil. The coolant which we have talked about earlier is circulated through the system by the compressor.
The refrigerator’s compressor system, which is responsible for forcing the coolant through the coil system laid out throughout the refrigerator, is driven by a capacitor-type motor. There are other basic parts of the cooling system, like for example, switches, thermostats, heaters, condensers, and fans.
Since refrigerator is one of the most hardworking appliances in your household and it takes care of you and your family by ensuring that the food that you are having is in good and edible condition, there could be several reasons for it to malfunction. For example, a situation could arise wherein there is a problem with the cooling system, it could make strange noises, leakages could be spotted, etc.
Refrigerators pass on the melted water to a tray that is placed within the unit through a passage provided. The mechanism generally lets the water evaporates, however if not, it is collected in the tray and can be drained later manually. The leakage happens if the passage of the water flow is blocked by any kind of clots, etc. the stuck up water would then try to find a way out which is under the crisper drawers most of the times. At times, the leakage in the pipeline, through which the ice cold water flows, could cause the leakage in the system as well.
Similarly, one of the most common problems that has been noticed is, refrigerators not cooling enough, or not cooling at all. This could happen because the freezer could have frozen. At times, the fan at the back of the refrigerator gets frozen and it doesn’t let the water evaporate of drain out. That could cause a freezing effect and hence, the cooling system in the unit can be stopped abruptly or may not be effective enough. It could also be possible that the fan has started malfunctioning, and in that case, it needs to be replaced.
Another worrying thing could be when your refrigerator makes strange noise. Normally, a refrigerator is bound to make a humming noise, however at times you could hear weird noises coming out of it, and it is an indication that something is not right and needs to be rectified. You could get a sound of water dripping which could because of the water dripping mentioned above. You might also hear cracking sound which could be caused due to the ice expanding in the bucket. A ticking notice could be heard which could be caused due the malfunctioning of a small electrical motor used to open the damper. These noises at times can be very annoying and more importantly, if not addressed right away, could lead to bigger problems.
You may also find that the icemaker or water dispenser in your refrigerator isn’t dispensing ice or water. Refrigerators are fitted disperser control board and it controls almost all of the functions of the dispensing system. The possibility is, that this board could have turned defective you need to find out if only one part of the board isn’t working of the entire board needs to be replaced. You might want to check the dispenser switches as well, in case the refrigerator isn’t dispensing the ice or water.
